Topic: New Welded Shift Fork Design in D404 Axle Models

Affected Models: D344, D404-(P), D405-(P), D454-(P), DSH40-(P), DSH44-(P)

In February 2000, a new welded shift fork and push rod assembly was designed and introduced into the models listed

above. The new welded shift fork assembly (P/N: 129856) requires the use of a longer spring (P/N: 129859). Because

the longer spring is required when using the new shift fork assembly, they are being sold together as a kit (P/N: 510870).

The old push rod and snap ring assembly (P/N: 129583) is no longer available; if replacing this particular part you should

update to the new replacement parts. The old design shift fork remains available for servicing earlier built models.

NOTE: DUE TO THE INHERENT DESIGN OF THE NEW WELDED SHIFT FORK ASSEMBLY 129856

(SERVICE KIT: 510870) THE PART IS NOT INTERCHANGEABLE WITH THE OLDER DESIGN

PARTS. 129856 WILL NOT WORK ON MODELS BUILT WITH POWER DIVIDER COVER STAMPED

“127605”. YOU MUST USE THE ORIGINAL DESIGN REPLACEMENT PARTS ON THOSE EARLY

MODELS. REFER TO THE CHARTS ON PAGE 2.
